The Church of Panagia Drossiani on Naxos: The church of the Panagia Drossiani, meaning Dewy Virgin, is the oldest Christian church of Naxos. Located near Moni, it is also considered one of the most important Byzantine churches and is therefore of immense historical significance. There are two different views on why it is called. One reason is that the location where it is built is called Drossia while others believe that the name refers to the icon of the church seeping or weeping every time the village is in danger. Hence the name Dewy Virgin. Extra tips! *30 minutes distance from Naxos town *can be approached by car-motorbike-daily bus tour *Parking space is limited *Photos with flash are not allowed *Lighting a candle and leaving a symbolic small amount is one of the Greek habits, you could also do it!

The church of Panagia Drosiani is located between the Tragea area and the village Moni. The cluster of temples of Drosiani, was built in the 6th century and is one of the most important early Christian churches. According to archaeologists it features the best preserved murals with the oldest one dating back to the 7th century and reaching up to the 14th century. The most famous of these is a double play on the dome of the church showing Christ at an early age, almost without a mustache and then as an adult man.
