This is the first Confucian temple in Taiwan. A solemn Confucius Memorial Ceremony takes place here on 28 September yearly, and a smaller ceremony on the spring equinox, around 21 March. Entry to the temple grounds is free, but you must pay to enter the palace area. Look out for the stone tablet on the right as you enter the Edification Hall.

Taiwan's 1st temple (connected to the 1st school). Great for photography, people-watching and just strolling. Across from the main gate is a 'tourist alley' which is totally worth the stroll, too.

台南孔廟位於台南市南門路，建於明朝年間，台南孔廟為全台第一座孔子廟、最早的文廟，一度是全台童生入學之所，號稱『全臺首學』。Tainan Confucius Temple, also known as “The Highest Institute”, was built in the year 1666. It is the first Confucius temple constructed in Taiwan and back in the days, it was the only place of the highest official institute of higher learning in Taiwan.
