The scene of many Lincoln speeches in the years leading up to the Civil War, the Old State Capitol, was the center of Illinois political life in the 1800's. Visitors can take a guided tour or view the historic building on their own.

“It’s a National Historic Landmark – if you own the National Parks Passport book – take your book and get your stamp. The tour is free – the grounds are nice to walk. It takes you back to a time long gone; the show inside is a nice historical piece. Open 8:30-5pm daily – Parking in the lot is $2 an hour – there is street parking, but at times it’s hard to find – 413 S 8th St, Springfield”
