Mingus Mill is a steel turbine-powered grist mill located off of Newfound Gap Road a few miles from the Cherokee, North Carolina, entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The mill was built in 1886 by Thomas Early and takes its name from the water source that provides it with power, Mingus Creek.

At 1.6 miles, look for the left turn into Mingus Mill. There are some great photo opportunities here. One of our favorites is to stand at the far end of the millrace – on the board that crosses over the millrace – looking toward the mill. This puts the millrace in the foreground of the photo with the mill in the background.

We love the Mingus Mill because it's still functioning as a waterpowered gristmill. Take the kids!

Located just a few minutes into the entrance of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Take a short walk to learn about the history of the mill.
