At Four Barrel Coffee, we believe that a beautiful cup of coffee begins with beautifully cared-for green coffee. This is made possible through our close partnerships with farmers, importers, exporters, and everyone in between. During this experience, you’ll be immersed in the process of coffee roasting and tasting through our uniquely San Francisco lens of quality. • To awaken your senses, we’ll start with a cup of Four Barrel coffee and freshly baked pastries from our sister bakery, Loquat. • Go behind the scenes and participate in a roast cycle with Four Barrel’s head roaster, who will explain how we roast coffee using our 1957 German-made Probat roaster. • Travel the world through taste with a coffee cupping—also known as coffee tasting—and learn how origin profoundly affects coffee flavor. You’ll have the opportunity to taste your way through the entire menu and discover your favorites while learning about their origins. HIGHLIGHTS + Stories of the Gold Rush and Chinese immigration + Taste food from a 100yo Restaurant + Sip on delicious bubble tea + Snack at a local bakery + Visit the fortune cookie factory + Eat a dim sum feast + Learn and taste all about Chinese tea Our tasty adventure starts in the heart of Chinatown with Dim Sum. Ready to take on the day, we check out the fortune cookie factory and take a peek inside! Next, we stroll down the street of the infamous 10-cent haircut and learn how sailors journeyed here in hopes of the American dream. But wait, the adventure doesn’t stop there! Next, we’ll check out the oldest bakery in Chinatown, a church that survived the 1906 earthquake, the oldest temples in the USA, all while sipping some delicious bubble tea. As we approach our final hour, we head to a local tea shop and learn about the role of tea in traditional Chinese medicine with a 30-minute tasting. Feeling warm, we head to our last stop to learn about the Gold Rush, in the exact spot it all started! Here we taste a local pork roll from one of the oldest restaurants in town.

In this fun class, you will learn how to make three different mochi dishes. First we will make fresh mochi with a choice of fillings: sweet red bean and fresh strawberries, peanut butter and chocolate mini cups, nutella, and others. Second, we will make the popular ice cream mochi with mini-scooped ice cream balls. Your choice of ice cream. I like green tea ice cream. Third, we will bake mochi donuts and then glaze them beautifully with vanilla, clear, or chocolate glaze. You and other guests will enjoy making and shaping the mochi dough, filling it with delicious fillings, and eating them with others. You will get to enjoy fresh and tasty mochi, and best of all you will know how to make delicious mochi dishes far into the future. Other things to note: Please feel free to bring any additional ingredients you would like to fill your mochi with (peanut butter, mango, etc...)

Our culinary experience will cover a total of FIVE local eateries, featuring eclectic dishes that'll certainly satisfy your appetite. Of course, it wouldn't be a Mission food tour without a traditional taqueria (est. 1987) experience! While we may not physically dine in each location (crowds & lines), a collection of their most famous dishes will be ordered & prepped in advance by yours truly. Skip the line and get straight to eating! We will close the tour on a sweet note, permitting you to sample some of the best ice cream in the country. Choose your favorite flavor for an indulgent dessert! A massive meal awaits - just bring your eating pants, comfy shoes, an open mind, and a ravenous appetite for adventure! I will host a cooking class with my wife Dalia to teach everyone how to make falafel and hummus. Guests will arrive to appetizers and juice. We will have a brief introduction to the history of Z Zoul and what it means to welcome people into a culture through food. We will then all have a hands on falafel and hummus making class. Once the falafel have been cooked, the guests will eat what they've made as part of a bigger meal. We will work with the guests to prepare a meal that caters to all dietary restrictions. Dahlia's "Roz Billaban" rice pudding will be served for dessert along with "Jabana," Sudanese coffee with cardamom and dried ginger.
