Foodland (Haleiwa, Kailua, Kaneohe, Laie). There are 3 Foodland Grocery Stores around us (www.foodland.com). Of these, we tend to like to go to the Foodland in Kailua (45min) as it has a nice inner store (R Field Wine Co.) that sells some more out of the ordinary and specialty items (food and wine). The store is very nice with a good selection of produce. The store also has beach towels, souvenirs and such. The Foodland in Haleiwa is good if you are on the North Shore of the island are looking to pick up various items. They redid their bakery and deli section, which offers more options. North Shore Soap Factory

They make great gifts and it is just fun to see all the different types of soaps that they have and smell them. Sometimes you can even see them make them. If you don't want to go here but like the soaps, Wholefoods Market carries their soaps.
Parks & Nature
Diamond Head State Park is a moderate to advanced hike up the crater. It is a very sunny hike and since our sun is quite strong, you will want to wear sunscreen, hat, sun protection clothing, and good walking/hiking shoes. Great views. Arrive early as it gets hot.

The parking fills up early so we recommend that you arrive early. There is a walkway down to the bay or you can take a short shuttle for a fee. There are also snorkels and fin rentals there if you are interested. It is gorgeous. Bring sun protection

The fee for adult visitors (out of state) is $5, children ages 6-12 is $1. There are free guided tours. It is very peaceful here and you may wish to just pack a lunch to enjoy the peaceful setting. I am listing the Manoa Falls Trial but there is also right by it the Aihualama Falls Trail. These are right by the Lyon Arboretum. The Arboretum has many trails by it. Kayaks can be rented close by as well and folks enjoy that a lot. Good parking early in the day. And, Kailua is a very nice town to visit to get some food to take to the beach or enjoy afterwards.

The water is very blue, gets deep very fast and can have serious rip currents depending on the season. In the summer it is calmer and nice for a cool dip. In the winter, this is a big surf spot. You can go there to watch some of the surf contests then and see world class surfers competing. It is quite exciting. The beach has a lifeguard.

Sunset Beach is one of the top surfing beaches. It is a beautiful beach to visit and just watch the surf. The water is very blue, gets deep very fast and can have serious rip currents depending on the season. In the summer it is calmer and nice for a cool dip. In the winter, this is a big surf spot. You can go there to watch some of the surf contests then and see world class surfers competing. It is quite exciting. The beach has a lifeguard.

"Nuuanu Pali Lookout" (nested in the "Koolau" Mountain Range) is located between Honolulu and the Windward side of the island. It has great views of the Windward side of the island, the ocean and "Koolau" mountains. It can get very windy so watch your hats! Beautiful vistas

Nuuanu Pali Drive"Nuuanu Pali Lookout" (nested in the "Koolau" Mountain Range) is located between Honolulu and the Windward side of the island. It has great views of the Windward side of the island, the ocean and "Koolau" mountains. It can get very windy so watch your hats! Beautiful vistas
Halona Blowhole is a fun sight to see. It is an underground lava tube open at both sides to the ocean waves. As the waves enter and pressurize the tube, the water shoots out like a geyser. When the waves are very big, the water may rise to 30 ft in the air. The surrounding vista is also just beautiful. The waters on this side of the Windward Coast are a deep blue and often you will feel the nice ocean breezes. The lookout has a parking area and paved areas to observe the geyser event. Please keep to the areas marked as safe.

8483 HI-72Halona Blowhole is a fun sight to see. It is an underground lava tube open at both sides to the ocean waves. As the waves enter and pressurize the tube, the water shoots out like a geyser. When the waves are very big, the water may rise to 30 ft in the air. The surrounding vista is also just beautiful. The waters on this side of the Windward Coast are a deep blue and often you will feel the nice ocean breezes. The lookout has a parking area and paved areas to observe the geyser event. Please keep to the areas marked as safe.

The Honolulu Museum of Art (www.honolulumuseum.org) is located at 900 South Beretania St in Honolulu. It is a nice place to visit if you like art. It is very peaceful and tranquil inside with nice architecture. The museum houses a lot of collections and exhibits that are worth seeing. The Asian art collection is very good. They also have special visiting exhibits. After you wander through the museum, stop in their cafe. It is very relaxing and nice.

It was built in 1882 by King Kalakaua and was technologically advanced for its times. It was the home of King Kalakaua and his sister Princess Liliuokalani who later became the last monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom. While not as lavish as the palaces in Europe, Iolani Palace is well worth the visit and historically very interesting. You will get a sense of history as you walk the wooden floors or the palace and go from one room to the other. If you go, definitely get the guided tour, which is very worthwhile. 364 S King StIolani Palace (www.iolanipalace.org) is located at 364 South King Street in Honolulu The Royal Palace was the home of the late monarchy. It was built in 1882 by King Kalakaua and was technologically advanced for its times. It was the home of King Kalakaua and his sister Princess Liliuokalani who later became the last monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom. While not as lavish as the palaces in Europe, Iolani Palace is well worth the visit and historically very interesting. You will get a sense of history as you walk the wooden floors or the palace and go from one room to the other. If you go, definitely get the guided tour, which is very worthwhile. Food Scene
This is a Japanese restaurant that serves a hotpot style cooking. It is close by (20min) and is located in a shopping mall by the grocery store Safeway and general store Longs Drugs. It is fun.
