Fun place to eat b/c this used to be the actual office for Detroit Parks & Recreation. Nice scenery. Local farm fare makes for a great menu. They serve excellent mimosas and Bloody Marys, too!

Expect a twist on Moroccan flavors such as baby back lamb ribs with ras el hanout (a North African spice blend) and pomegranate barbecue sauce, Moroccan-style hot chicken, lamb tangine bowls, and chicken shawarma bowls with lemon vegetable couscous, veggies, garlic sauce, and pickled cucumber and turnip. Vegan options are available. The entire menu is halal and items are under $11 each.

This park is located in the commercial center and heart of downtown Detroit. Lots to see and do in a 2-block span: gardens, music stage, historic monuments, free events, programs and classes—like free yoga on Saturdays. In summer, there's a sandy beach. In winter, an ice rink. Eat at The Fountain Detroit, full-service restaurant and bar right in the park.

The newest trendy spot in Detroit. Lots of shopping and eateries packed into one square block. Shinola is the cornerstone. Stop into Motor City Brewing for some craft beer. Be sure to shop Nest and City Bird (Detroit-themed shop).

Vibrant Mexican community with tons of restaurants, bars, and bakeries. One of my favs is Xochimilco Restaurant. Even if you don't want to eat Mexican food, this area is a must see for the beautiful murals, awesome views of the Ambassador Bridge to Canada, and the Bagely Street Pedestrian Bridge, which gives you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to stand above 10 lanes of highway traffic.

Mexicantown - Southwest Detroit
Vibrant Mexican community with tons of restaurants, bars, and bakeries. One of my favs is Xochimilco Restaurant. Even if you don't want to eat Mexican food, this area is a must see for the beautiful murals, awesome views of the Ambassador Bridge to Canada, and the Bagely Street Pedestrian Bridge, which gives you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to stand above 10 lanes of highway traffic.
Once a neglected and overgrown railway passage, the Dequindre Cut is now a wonderful walk/bike path that leads down to the riverfront. From there you can then ride along the river to Hart Plaza and the Renaissance Center. Contact me if you want to rent bikes from the Moran St Bike Shop right around the corner from your flat. I highly recommend!

Dequindre Cut GreenwayOnce a neglected and overgrown railway passage, the Dequindre Cut is now a wonderful walk/bike path that leads down to the riverfront. From there you can then ride along the river to Hart Plaza and the Renaissance Center. Contact me if you want to rent bikes from the Moran St Bike Shop right around the corner from your flat. While I've never gone any other day but Saturday, Eastern Mkt has a Sunday Street Fair with Detroit and MI-based artists selling handmade crafts, vintage clothing, specialty foods, and antiques.

It seems so odd that such a massive, majestic building (on the National Register of Historic Places) now sits idle. Located in Corktown and kinda hard to miss, be sure to drive by when you visit this area of the City.

There's a reason people call this Whole Paycheck; it's pricey. Whole Foods, however, is very close (less than a 10-minute drive) and they do have a nice selection of foods for travelers who want easy to fix meals, sandwiches, etc.

If I don't go to Krogers out in the burbs, this is normally where I grocery shop. Located in Mexicantown, Honey Bee has an excellent selection of fresh produce, meats…. Prices are right. Be sure to check out the Ambassador Bridge, which you can see from the parking lot.
