Berry Knoll Bakery is an excellent place to pick up delicious pastries or muffins, breakfast sandwiches (bagel and lox too!), salads, coffee and espresso, and especially PIZZA. They offer baked pizza or take n' bake pizza. I prefer the take n' bake for a night in, so it can be fresh and hot out of the oven. Any of the pizzas are delicious. If you don't want to bake it at home, I recommend the "pizza bombs". These are essentially calzones, and come in meat lovers, supreme, and pepperoni. The house coffee is delicious and they also offer specialty drinks. Free coffee with breakfast! The cinnamon rolls are amazing!

The chicken here is juicy, hot, & absolutely yum yum yummy! I really enjoy the flavor bursts as well. A flavor burst is ice cream with a variety of different flavors swirled through it. The prices are more than reasonable & its central location makes it a must for locals as well as those traveling through our cozy little towns.

Sego Restaurant is an experience like no other. The dining here is on par with the finest restaurants of New York or LA. It has quickly become the #1 restaurant in Kanab and for good reason. This is a highly desirable place to eat so reservations are recommended. It is only open from 6-10, Monday through Saturday. I recommend the Grilled Cesaer Salad and the Scallops. The Stage Coach Grille as such a fun, laid back, rustic atmosphere. The food is a little on the pricey side, but delicious! Some excellent options are: the smoked chicken, ribs, New York strip steak, & the salmon. They are all moist & flavorful! The owners have friends from Greece, so they have regular appetizers & Greek appetizers. They sprinkle a little oregano on their fries & have other fun flares in their food. They have a delicious bacon vinaigrette salad dressing, my mouth waters thinking about it!

This place is excellent and on your way to Zion. Breakfast sandwich: massive, hearty, tasty, made with love. Large lattes made with four shots. High quality smoothies as well. Wonderful coffee house with amazing views of the gorge and valley. The turkey and bacon panini is wonderful. River Rock also serves a number of local beers including Evolution Ale and Provo Girl from Wasatch Brewing. It is a bustling place and the employees are friendly and helpful.

This is so much more than a restaurant and gift shop! It's on the way from La Verkin to Zion National Park in Virgin, UT. If you are checking out Zion from the west entrance, I highly recommend going here for lunch or dinner. It's one of my family's favorite places to go. It's reasonably priced (hint, get a delicious burger on a homemade bun with all the fixings, fries, drink, and a pickle, for $6.99!) AND you will have a truly memorable experience into yesteryear...traveling back to the "OLD WEST"! The Western Village, with it's nostalgic flair is a load of fun with a nice variety of animals in the petting farm to feed and pose for pictures...plus the Restaurant is an Old West Saloon & Ice

Maxwell Park is what we like to call our "mini-Zion" right in our backyard, only 15 minutes from the Desert Sage Chalet. This is where we get all our drinking water from the natural spring. There is plenty of grass, shady trees, and barbecue pits. You will be surrounded by gorgeous sandstone red sheer cliffs. This is one of the best kept secrets in our area.

Valley of Fire State Park is Nevada's first State Park. This is a great park for kids. Lots of sandstone rocks to climb, explore, and play hide-n-seek. The colors in the sandstone are spectacular: red, white and pink. There are enough hikes to easily keep you busy for two days, but even if you only have one day you do not want to miss this State Park. A must is driviving the White Dome road to the end. Don't miss this park for colorful sandstone views, numerous arches, petrifed logs, Petroglyphs, old rock cabins built by the CCC, Desert Bighorn Sheep, chuckwalla's and other wildlife, and old film locations. You won't be disappointed.

Beautiful place to hike and camp! It has several beautiful natural pools to swim in and small waterfalls. It's a kid friendly hike with a bit of shade here and there. In the spring the river is flowing and you often need to cross it so the shoes will most likey get soaked. In the summer the river dries and the pools become tepid but they are usually full of tadpoles so it's still a lot of fun for the kids..

ZION NATIONAL PARK TRAIL: Emerald Pools is a Zion classic: an oasis in the middle of the desert. The hike is a collection of short trails that meander past a small, lushly-vegetated stream that rolls down from the cliffs and forms several interesting "pools." If you have only two hours to spend on a leisurely non-strenuous hike with the entire family, I would probably pick this one. As this hike is not very difficult and it is located just across from the Zion Lodge, this trail gets crowded in the summer months, so be prepared to share the views with many other people. Time Required:2-4 hours Length:Roughly 2 miles, depending on which loops you hike.

This is the most amazing way to experience the Grand Canyon. A long drive off the highway with some rough roads are to be expected so come prepared to get beat up and dirty. The views are spectacular and can be enjoyed with little or no interruption from other tourists. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS ROUTE IF IT HAS/ WILL BE SNOWING OR RAINING. The road becomes impassable. 4 WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES ONLY. Scary with young children as it's a sheer drop with no guardrails.

The National Park Service does an excellent job giving tours here. They explain not just the history of Pipe Springs but delve into the co-existence of the three groups that relied on the springs. The Paiute Indians, the Mormon settlers and the US Government. Ranger Kait, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable in all aspects of life in this remote location. She explained the political and religious ramifications for the Native Americans and the Mormons. The tour is given at the top of the hour and if you have extra time, there is a great 20 minute film to watch as well as the artifacts in the visitors center. Take the time to walk the Ridge Trail behind the museum. The views are spectacular

This is a very interesting place in existence since 2011. It originated as a private collection of Mr Dixon Spendlove . It consists of numerous Indian artifacts. The collection is quite extensive including pottery, medicine bags, arrowheads, jewelry, tools etc Since this also doubles as a visitor center one can rest here, picnic and use the facilities.

Best route to Zion and Bryce

Many tourists stick to the highways and miss so many of the beautiful views. Instead of planning your Zion trip by going directly to Springdale via Highway 9, I always recommend to guests that they take the back route past the Coral Pink Sand Dunes from our cabins. (NOTE: If you are pressed for time and only have time to drive through the park, say if you are staying one night at our place, you can take this route in reverse.) To get to Zion from our ranch you will take 3 lefts. Left at the end of our driveway onto the Cane Beds Rd (aka 237), go about 20 minutes & past the Sand Dunes (don't forget to stop here!), then left when you hit Highway 89. About 4 miles down the road you will turn left again at Mt. Carmel Junction (there will be signs and a gas station/hotel). That's it! From here you enter the EAST entrance into Zion and see things many people never get to see, drive all the way through the park, then get out in Springdale and take the shuttle back into the canyon to do your hikes (if visiting March-October, in the off-season you do not have to ride the shuttle). This back route is also the best way to get to Bryce Canyon. Once you are on highway 89 you just follow it all the way north about an hour and you will see signs for Bryce.

Antelope Canyon & the Wave

Lower and Upper Antelope Canyon require advanced reservations on the internet. To hike the wave your best chance is to visit the BLM office in Kanab early in the morning (I believe by 8 AM) and be added into the daily drawing. If the Wave is on your bucket list your best chance of being successful in the lottery is to come in mid to late January which is the slowest season. Plan to visit Lake Powell or Horseshoe Bend on this day regardless, since they are pretty close. If you do win the lottery then you have to use your permit within one day and you are allowed to take up to 4 people (including the winner) in your party (we would love to go with you if you win, lol!)
