A very popular tourist and surf beach, at low tide this beach is huge. Close by is the Bay View Inn, great sea views indoor and out. In the warmer months there are swings, slides and a bouncy castle in peak season. You can enjoy pub grub at this place, with or without the family.
We love this little bay, with rock pools and river to negotiate around and over at low tide. Impressive cliffs with coastal paths to climb either side. Amazing view of the valley from the top.

At the end of our drive walk left and 100 yards down the A39 on the grassy verge, cross the road and follow the footpath sign to walk down to the river, through the woods and across the fields. Keep going for refreshments until you reach the Preston Gate pub in Poughill! Take the OS map and follow another route back across footpaths!

Hoping to surprise Stamford's army, these four columns advanced from four different directions around 5:00 a.m. Hopton led the first column from the south, while Major-General Basset attacked from the north and Sir Bevil Grenville and Sir Nicholas Slanning attacked from the west.
See the site of this attack opposite us and walk the public footpath which runs through it. Head down the drive to the A39, walk left along the grassy verge and cross the road. Over the stile and down into the wood, following the footpath.

During 2019 ‘Rebecca’ by Daphne du Maurier starring Lily James, Arme Hammer and Kristen Scott Thomas was filmed on the estate at Hartland Quay and in September WildBrain and King Bert Productions filmed Enid Blyton’s ‘Malory Towers’ for CBBC inside and around Hartland Abbey. Both will be shown in 2020
