Food Scene

We always appreciate the superb, fresh food and yummy, fabulous breakfast, salad, and sandwich, creations at Cafe Chew. I really want to address something less tangible in this review though. We found ourselves back at Cafe Chew the other day with our 2 year old grandson. We usually sit outside with him, but it was raining. The cafe was very busy. Before we were fully seated we had already spilled water and ice across three tables! The people who came running to clean up our mess could not have been more welcoming and gracious. My grandson is a very discerning (or picky) eater. We can always find something he loves on the menu here. But it is not enough that the food is delicious, and

Sightseeing

This is the pulse of the town in the summer. Everyone walks the boardwalk, and either jumps off at high tide or goes to watch others jump. There is an old tradition of tide "floaters" on all the creeks. On the "town creek" by the boardwalk people float into their 90's. It is really quite amazing, and cool. Our lives are governed by the tides here. As the tide approaches high, people drop everything to grab a tube and ride the tide in, and then out as it switches. Many of the older floaters don't bother with a tube, they just let the current carry them. It's very social and appeals to mixed ages from young children to great grandparents. Low tide pulls people to the sandbars.

Parks & Nature

This is one of the most beautiful places on earth (especially after the first mile. My favorite is trail five. In addition to all the other wildlife here and gorgeous vistas...if you go during a full or new moon cycle, you're likely to see sea turtle hatchlings emerge and leave a long unlikely trail through the dunes, to the water. There are about two weeks of the year when green flies are active and it really isn't comfortable to be on these stunning trails so be sure to ask at the Parks station (at the trailhead). DOn't forget a hat, sunscreen, and water. Don't wear blue clothes ... (it attracts mosquitoes apparently). There is no fee for parking at the marsh-side trailhead.

Shopping

Best deal on grocery prices. If you go ... the fish market in Market Basket is pretty great. They will cook you a sweet amazing lobster while you get your groceries (usually in 15 minutes). Then take it home and melt some butter!
