MUST SEE spots
Mt. Kaimon is the symbol mountain among the locals. It's called 'Satsuma-Fuji' because the shape is similar to Mt. Fuji. (Satsuma: name of Kagoshima until 150 years ago) 924m height, 2 hours to the summit, easy level.

This public bath, 'Unagi Onsen' and its district is well known as the place the greatest hero, Takamori Saigo had been stayed for a month in private, a couple of year before his death. The district is facing to a lake, surrounded by cliffs, a tranquil village. You can order the eggs cooked with geothermal steam at the reception. Why not give it a try!

This is the main shrine in town, set in a stone's throw from Mt. Kaimon. You will see a delicate, beautiful artistic work in everywhere. I like a quiet, calm atmosphere in this place. 10 min walk from its nearest train station, Kaimon.

This is the Japanese cuisine restaurant I totally recommend you. They serve the local cuisine using bonitos. Try the dish 'Katsuo no Tataki', slightly grilled bonitos. It's amazingly delicious! 10 min walk from my place.
