This was the seed that started it all. Market on Main was the first re-development project in the area that set the ground work for everything else. Food meets shopping, meets art. There are great stalls offering everything you can imagine. Open on Sundays and on the first Thursday of every month.

One of my favourite restaurants located in trendy and up-market Pankhurst. It serves French cuisine. Get the Moules frittes - mussels and french fries. You can head to Jolly Roger after for a great pub vide.

Out local Ethiopian restaurant just downstairs. If you've never tried Ethiopian food, you simply have you to. It's quite rich and a little spicy, but if you can handle an ordinary curry you should be just fine. It's also great value for money and quick and easy. For variety, I'd recommend the Mahberawi which is a mixed meat and vegetarian dish on top of injera - a delicious sour dough Ethiopian bread which looks like a pancake.

Also, they have a great pub to meet other travellers.

One of Jo'burg's only independent art-house cinemas. Run by movie geeks, you'll often find quirky special events such as Big Lebowski nights, Noodlebox cinema, and french themed evenings. Some celebrities are known to pay a visit here. It's the only cinema I know of that allows you to bring in your beer and pizza whilst you watch.
