I am told there are 26 eating and drinking places in Lostwithiel. I must have tried most of them, and all serve first class local food. Try Trewithen Restuarant in Fore Street for a very special event, or The Duchy Cafe overlooking Restormel Castle if you are just looking for a light lunch or coffee break.

Many film companies are using Charlestown because they can get the Tall ships into the harbour - and of course because of its charm as a small fishing village. The Restaurants seem to be up and coming with local food, including fresh fish, a very important part of their menus.

Drinks & Nightlife
Although Newquay is better known for its nightlife, I prefer Truro - but then that could be my age! There is a night club, bars have local musicians, and the Hall for Cornwall has a varied itinerary for all tastes.

Sightseeing
King Arthur is claimed to have lived in Tintagel Castle but whether the stories are true or not, the Castle is still a stunning place to visit and the views of the rugged North Cornish coast from the Castle are just a spectacular.

The Reserve, along with Helman Tor , is just a mile from Sunset Lodge. Both are worth a visit, along with Luxulyan Valley and its amazing aqua viaduct. There are many stunning walks in the area and the Saints Way , the pilgrimage walk from Padstow to Fowey, runs right by.

Parts of the valley, which was once a prosperous mining area, have been restored thanks to a national heritage lottery grant. There are remains of the mining workings including a waterwheel and the aqua viaduct. http://www.luxulyanvalley.co.uk/ . Many beautiful trails to walk.
You can easily spend the day at the Eden Project and if you exchange your day pass for a year one at no extra cost, you can even spend a couple of days there! They organise many events and activities so check out their programme of events. There is also a zip wire over the Eden Project if you want to get the adrenaline going.

Shopping
If you are looking for more of the unusual, then I recommend Fowey. Its my favourite as you can sip coffee and look at the boats before heading off to find local crafts . There are a few chain shops, but most are independent, You can also get fresh fish, meat and there is a bakery.

The nearest small shops for essentials are 2 1/2 miles away. There is one in Lanivet, Luxulyan and Lostwithiel. If you want to do a big grocery shop then supermarkets can be found in Bodmin and St Austell. I would recommend shopping online before you come. Most of the large supermarkets deliver. The delivery address would be Corgee farm

For something out of the ordinary, why not try your hand at stopping the train at Luxulyan.... You actually have to put your arm out to signal to the driver you want to board the train which they takes you to Newquay or Par. Luxulyan station is just 2 1/2 miles away. The route to Newquay takes you through the beautiful Luxulyan Valley.

You actually have to put your arm out to signal to the driver you want to board the train which they takes you to Newquay or Par. Luxulyan station is just 2 1/2 miles away. The route to Newquay takes you through the beautiful Luxulyan Valley.
