He was the first territorial judge and he "walked the length and breadth of Alaska four times bringing law and order to the territory". This is a quote from Ruth Allman, the judges niece and sole survivor, who lived in the house and gave tours for many years. She was famous for her aurora borealis waffles (she lit a sugar cube soaked in vanilla). It is a great place to go while enjoying a walk in the older neighborhood.

Seasonally see salmon returning to the hatchery through the window on the fish ladder, see the harvesting of eggs and milt, see the fry as they grow. All of this and a huge aquarium featuring plants and animals gathered near the hatchery itself. There are kid level smaller tanks featuring various animals and a touch tank. There is a great gift shop featuring both salmon and other Alaskan items

Peaceful, beautiful and so very quiet. Walk the labyrinth, see the views and enjoy the sounds of nature. We have been to many beautiful weddings in the historic stone chapel.
