Neighborhoods

Lawrenceville is hipster central in Pittsburgh! Lots of really fun, trendy restaurants and bars are available here. There's a bowling alley with a bar. Lots of people bike around here and there is easy access to a bike trail across the bridge. Lots of local breweries as well - I highly recommend Roundabout Brewing or Arsenal Cider. A great place to walk around and look at local shops and there's also a historic cemetery that's a nice little walk too.

Oakland is the neighborhood where University of Pittsburgh is located. It offers Schenley Park, the Cathedral of Learning, the Nationality Rooms, Phipps Conservatory, and the Carnegie Museums of Natural History and Art, plus a bunch of local shops and restaurants. Carnegie Mellon University is also a short walk away and has its art museum and theatre program.

Just across the river from Lawrenceville is up-and-coming Millvale. While not quite as hip, Millvale has some rocking breweries - highly recommend Grist House AND Strange Roots (the second only if you like sours). On the hill is St. Nicholas Croatian Church, which has a set of amazing murals painted by Croatian artist Maxo Vanka showcasing themes of anti-war, social justice, and powerful women figures - tours run every Saturday. Millvale also has a food truck park next to the Three Rivers Heritage trail, which would allow you to bike downtown.

With Pittsburgh having among the most bars per capita, South Side definitely contributes to that tally. East Carson Street has a lot of restaurant and shopping options during the day and an active evening drinking culture. This is where many Duquesne students hang out and the crowd heavily skews towards 20-somethings in the evenings. South Side also offers escape rooms, stair climbs up into the South Side slopes, a very fun vegan/antique brunch place - Zenith, a lovely river walk, and a local Hofbrauhaus with an outdoor beer garden.

Sightseeing

One of the best views of the city - there are viewing platforms up here that are frequently crowded with tourists! While you're up there, take the Incline down to experience the historic way that Pittsburghers used to go to work.
