Travel between our airbnb Herne Bay. In general my advice would be to pre-book a taxi. Auckland buses are unreliable, you may get easily from the airport to town but then the buses around town never run on time. IF you have lots of luggage or even a pushchair the driver may decide there is not room for you on the bus. Buses through the night are not a great idea, it rains lots and night time in the city all though relatively safe can be a bit daunting. Shuttles aren’t that much cheaper, so for the $6 its probably better to have a bit of peace of mind. Auckland Airport transport page link: https://www.aucklandairport.co.nz/transport/public-transport Bus Stop on our corner (7124), our stop is a 1-2 minute walk from the house, the route is referred to as the outer link. At night from Wellesley street (where sky shuttles drops, its two stops. It’s actually very close and would be easier and probably cheaper (time of day dependent) to uber. https://at.govt.nz/bus-train-ferry/timetables/find-my-stop-or-station-on-a-map/ Discount taxi’s fixed rate to/from Herne Bay: http://www.discounttaxis.co.nz/set-airport-prices/ The set price to us is $55 credit card, $45 cash. These guys are reliable. Pre-book using the link. Seriously a good option, if you look at the shuttle prices and the hassle of the bus! Shuttle service: There are a few different types of shuttle, some drop at a fixed location, some make stops at people’s homes, so a few groups go together, some charge per person, some charge for two people. Here is one example... You need to make sure when booking to go to the airport you get the correct timings, they do have to pickup others, so make sure you still arrive 2 hours before you flight! Super Shuttles: https://www.supershuttle.co.nz/Booking/ Average price: Two people $48, or $39 if booked online. Add a $2.50 booking fee per person for booking on the phone. How does it work: Prebook on the website (link above). Go to the pickup point at the airport. Corporate Cabs: http://www.corporatecabs.co.nz/ This is the best option for a nervous traveller or a vulnerable loved one. I personally use these guys but they are twice the price. For $80-$100 a driver will meet you in arrivals with a sign, they use the flight number to ensure they are always there to meet you, carry your bags and transport you in a very safe luxury vehicle. I like driver 111, her name is Nellie. Uber: https://www.uber.com/nz/en/ Uber have a stand at Auckland airport, this is very traffic dependant as far as rate goes, but if you prefer a cashless scenario then this works for you. Avoid uber around rush hour traffic, this is anytime on a Friday afternoon and all business days start and close. ----------- I hope this helps, let me know what you end up using and if there is anything you discover that might be useful for future guests! Our local chinese restaurant, well known for its peeking duck. Quite pricey, we have birthday dinners there.
