Violent and unexpected, the volcanic eruption of Mt Tarawera on 10 June 1886 was one of New Zealand's greatest natural disasters. For more than four terrifying hours rocks, ash, and mud bombarded the peaceful village of Te Wairoa ending more than 150 lives and destroying the eighth wonder of the world - the Pink and White Terraces BUT it doesn't end there... Thanks to the sensitive redevelopment by three generations of the Smith family, you can see what life was like at the village before, during, and after the eruption.

3D Trick Art is to enable people to experience an optical illusion of three dimensional structures from two dimensional paintings using scientific drawing technique and special paint. For drawing technique, perspective and shading are basically applied to complete a stereogram (Three-dimensional painting). In addition to the drawing technique, high transparency paint is used to generate a special layer that increases curve and reflection rate of light. This combination gives the artworks different perceptions from different angles.

While the menu isn't huge, it is still quite difficult to choose among the tantalizing options but to make things even harder, they were also offering several nightly specials with even more great dishes. A must try is their mixed Italian salad that - every bite bursting with the fresh taste of vegetables with a wonderful light dressing - chock full of artichokes, onion, fresh and sun-dried tomatoes and more fresh local organic vegetables.
