Here I'm recommending afternoon tea, the Royal has a real old-world charm. If you're travelling by public transport check out the number 3 bus http://www.islandbuses.info/ or they have a small car park opposite.

It's very nearby, it's a nice place to sit outside for a drink as it has the most amazing views of sea and sky it serves good food. Plus on a Sunday they often have live bands in the garden.

This is actually a really old pub right on the beach at the South end of Shanklin seafront, just a great location for a glass of beer! They also serve food.

Parks & Nature
I'm mentioning bonchurch because I'd like to recommend (if you're able-bodied and like a good walk) the Coastal Path walk from Shanklin to Ventnor through the landslip, past Devils Chimney. It can take aprox. an hour and a half, best if it's not rainy as it gets muddy and then you need good boots :) you can get the number 3 bus back from Ventnor town it goes every half hour or so check the timetable at http://www.islandbuses.info/

Bonchurch
I'm mentioning bonchurch because I'd like to recommend (if you're able-bodied and like a good walk) the Coastal Path walk from Shanklin to Ventnor through the landslip, past Devils Chimney. It can take aprox. an hour and a half, best if it's not rainy as it gets muddy and then you need good boots :) you can get the number 3 bus back from Ventnor town it goes every half hour or so check the timetable at http://www.islandbuses.info/
If you like a good walk and would like to get up high and look down over Shanklin and Sandown and across the Island to Ryde and the mainland beyond. Start at St Blasius Church in Shanklin, there's a free car park or it's a 15-minute walk through the town from us. Head through the churchyard and follow the sign over the style and through the gate into the fields beyond. Follow the well-trodden footpath that takes you up and up to the small cement tumuli where you can sit and take in the amazing views. Take water. It's quite steep in places, suitable for the able-bodied. Allow aprox. 45 mins to walk from the Isle of Yoga to the top,(this depends greatly on fitness! :)
There are various walks from here to Ventnor for example. I would recommend using a map or google.

Access to the cove is made via a 25-minute walk from Ventnor Esplanade and Beach along the coast path. Or a steeper descent down Love Lane which runs past Ventnor cricket club. It is also possible to get to Steephill Cove by walking from the back of the Ventnor Botanic. (Charges apply if parking at the Botanic Gardens).

A Norman castle that's had a rich history, Charles the 1st was imprisoned here, great views from the walls of the castle and the keep, interesting and good fun for kids too as there are old stairs, walls to climb, lots of fascinating history, oh and donkeys!

Getting Around
Shanklin Bus Station (Bay D)
It's outside the main Co-op store in the town of Shanklin.
The railway on the Island runs between Ryde pier head and our home town of Shanklin, taking in 6 stops along the way. The Fast Cat ferry which runs from Portsmouth Harbour to the Isle of Wight, docks at Ryde Peir Head where a local train runs to Shanklin in 20 minutes, every half an hour.
