Food Scene

So many food treasure's in Melbourne and I often find the best way is just to walk until you find somewhere that suits your hunger of the day. Here's a few of my favourites though to help you get started.
So delicious Asian fusion. It gets very busy but worth the hustle. The kingfish sashimi is an amazing place to start but I've never had anything not delicious. The flavours are a sensation and the quality and freshness of the food really is a standout. I could work my way through the menu and bet I wouldn't be disappointed.

Di Parsia Pasticceria Caffe is downstairs by the entrance so a good place to grab a coffee if you can't be bothered making your own (coffee pod machine and tea varieties provided in your apartment though) . Great coffee and lovely people running the place as well. Open 7am - 7pm 7 days.

Recommending as it's so close. A decent meal and good value. It's just downstairs and a few doors up from Dominos Pizza (their sign stands out more but just keep walking), this is a handy place to grab a cheap meal. You can eat in or grab a take-away and they will even deliver to the apartment if you like. I'm a big fan of the Kimchi fried rice but am working my way through the menu. Despite the name it's as much Korean as Japanese.

There are so many great Chinese options in Melbourne but Hu Tong makes my favourite Wontons with hot Chilli sauce and my all time favourite claypot eggplant. I keep meaning to try more on the menu but then I remember the last time and order the same thing again as both are seriously good. Located at 14-16 Market Lane it's a couple of ks a way so further than many other dumpling options but worth a quick tram ride up Collins Street (get off at Stop 7) and then a short walk. You might enjoy waddling home afterwards as there's a lot of downhill going back towards the apt. You can walk off some of those extra dumplings you squeezed in! www.hutong.com.au

Arbory Afloat is a 'pop up' venue throughout Summer and a little either side and worth a visit if it's 'happening' while you're in town. It the perfect place to grab a seat (or booth upstairs by the pool) and enjoy an icy cold beer and FANTASTIC pizza while you watch the river traffic. It's a nice walk down the river and you'll find it adjacent to Flinders Street Station literally ON the Yarra River (hence the name Arbory AFLOAT). It's sister Arbory sits next to it by the station but is land locked and there all year.

Essentials

Handy to know if you feel like cooking while away. All the essentials and pretty much a full sized woolworths. Just head up Spencer Street and it's just inside Southern Cross Train Station at the closest point to the apartment. For smaller shops there's 2 x 7-Elevens without around 50 metres.

Public Transport

Within Melbourne CBD you can jump on and off any tram and it's free. You don't need to 'touch on' a card unless you go out of the 'free tram zone' which is out of the central business district. If you do want to travel further out of town on either a tram or train you will need a 'MYKI' card. To make it a little easier for you I've provided two Myki cards which you'll find on the front desk in the apt. They're topped up with $10 so feel free to use and then top back up and leave for the next guests.

Free things in Melbourne!

There are good tips for free things to do in Melbourne on the following sites but I just love jumping on and off the free trams and walking the streets. There's always something to see or new tastes to savour. So many delectable little restaurants are tucked away and sometimes the most basic looking are the ones that delight! https://www.timeout.com/melbourne/things-to-do/the-best-free-things-to-do-in-melbourne https://www.visitmelbourne.com/Regions/Melbourne/Things-to-do/Free-Melbourne

Weather unpredictable!

Melbourne weather is ridiculous! Be aware:- Winter starts at 6am Spring starts at 11am Summer is at 2pm Autumn starts at 5pm .... dress accordingly! You can literally have 4 seasons in one week and sometimes even in one day. It's actually rather fun but be aware it can be HOT, windy, cold, wet and hot again all within 24 hours. It's best to pack and wear layers. Note there are umbrellas hanging next to the dryer in the bathroom if you need them.
