Parks & Nature

The sandy area is very large. The water is clear and warm and on the edges has nice waves. It is also less frequented than the actual Sosua beach. There are not as many sellers and thus more private. The beach is located at the end of Dr. Rosen street, right next to the Waterfront Restaurant, in front of the Jewish Memorial Park. It is easily accessible by a few stairs leading down from the park, the restaurant, as well as the adjacent Casa Marina Beach Resort. Casa Marina has its own beach further down, but Playa Alicia has become the more popular beach.

The largest beach in Sosua. Beach chairs & umbrellas are available for rent. Try the banana boats at your own risk! You get tugged and swung by a boat until you fall off. Life jackets available. Sosua Beach is also a go-to spot for snorkeling. The reef is a close swim and the water is usually crystal clear. You can rent what you need to take the plunge right on the beach for a few hundred pesos. Lots of vendors selling things but they get the idea to back off if you are firm (be nice as this is how they make a living). For a slower pace try the glass bottom boats or a fishing excursion. Don't like vendors: go to nearby Playa Alicia.

Arts & Culture

The Jewish Museum of Sosua is within walking distance from the villa. This museum is a tribute to the 700 refugee Jews who were received by the then President, Trujillo, in 1938, during the Nazi occupation of Germany. The exhibitions show photographs and objects of interest belonging to the immigrants and the dairy produce manufacture facilities that they created in the town.

Entertainment & Activities

This is the best zip line excursion in the Caribbean. Has 7 lines, each one more thrilling than the last. For those afraid of speed and heights, there is an accompanying monkey jungle where you can walk through the jungle and interact with the playful, friendly monkeys. All ages. Great value if you do both the zip line and monkey jungle excursion.

Iguana Mama has a greater selection of activities but Mel Tours is right in Sosua. Great tour guides that can take you on horseback riding and ATV excursions and everything else in between. You can save money by going directly to the vendors running these activities but folks like Mel Tours can make it easy for you and provide transport.

Sightseeing

A cable car takes visitors to the top of the enormous flat-topped Pico Isabel de Torres. On clear days there are spectacular views of the city and coastline – go early, before the mountain clouds up. The botanical gardens at the top are good for an hour’s stroll. You'll also find a large statue of Christ the Redeemer (similar to but smaller than its counterpart in Rio de Janeiro), an overpriced restaurant and knick-knack sellers. Cable-car tickets are cash only.
