Take inspiration from the interplay between nature and urban architecture along Amsterdam’s canals for an immersive painting session in which you’ll translate the beauty of your surroundings onto canvas.
• Walk the city’s streets, taking in the canal-side scenery and learning to see the micro and macro details in nature and architecture. I’ll break down how light, shadow, and color create depth.
• At easels set up along the Amstel Canal, use pencil, charcoal, or crayon to sketch organic (plants, trees, reflections) and structural (buildings, bridges, boats) elements, as well as their poetic interplay. I’ll offer guidance throughout.
• Experiment with movement techniques, refining how your hand translates what you see. Try color layering, light mixing, and contouring to bring depth and emotion to your scene.
We’ll gather to admire each other’s creations, share insights, and discuss techniques that resonated most. You’ll leave with your completed artwork and the confidence to continue exploring botanical art.
