What about serving alcohol? Do I need any licences for that?

Alcohol is a highly regulated area. You need a licence to serve alcohol. Selling alcohol without a license exposes you to the risk of a fine up to €12,000.

If you have submitted a valid SCIA relating to the sale of food and beverage,, this allows you to sell alcohol. However, note that there are restrictions relating to opening hours and serving times. For example, if you would like to sell alcohol between midnight and 7am, you will need an additional license for that (which is likely to come with conditions - such as a requirement to interrupt alcohol sale for 3 hours after 3am).

Is there a minimum drinking age? Is there a minimum serving age?

In Italy, you are not allowed to serve or sell alcohol to people who are younger than 18. Failure to comply exposes you to the risk of a fine ranging from € 250 to € 1,000. In addition, be aware that serving alcohol to people who are younger than 16 is an offence which trigger severe penalties including criminal sanctions. Always check the age of your guests very carefully.

What if I carry out my activity in the historical city centre? Will I need to comply with any additional rules?

Yes, Florence’s historical centre is protected as a UNESCO heritage site. Any activity in the historic centre is subject to special rules (see section 18 in this document). Those rules may not apply to home-based activities - however this is considered to be a grey area and it is a good idea to check with the Florence Municipality whether specific restrictions apply to your experience.
