프로그램

Join me for a personally guided journey along a trail that's loved by locals, but little known by tourists. We'll walk the 4.25 mile trail along a beautiful wooded creek bordered by thick native foliage to search for treasures from the past. We'll learn about the area's coal mining history and seek out remnants of the past hidden from those unaware of the fascinating stories that haunt this urban outpost. See where President Rutherford Hayes visited, discover a hidden mine shaft and stumble upon relics of once-bustling towns that are being reclaimed by Mother Nature. You'll learn about the plants - the friends and the foes - and taste some along the way. You'll get to take a Forest Bath. These woods are filled with wonder and beauty. You won't forget this true Northwest experience - perfect for everyone - families, kids, dates, students, corporate teams, your Pandemic Pod. We’ll make sure you have a great time. Mask up, bring your friends, have some high-quality outside fun!
Other things to note
Bring sturdy walking shoes (tennis shoes are fine; no open-toed shoes, unless they are hiking sandals). Transportation is included from a spot easily accessed by public transportation. Or, we can drive separately and meet at the trailhead. Guide has been fully COVID vaccinated. Hand sanitizer provided.

I'm a Northwest native who is passionate about getting into the woods. I have been hiking in the Northwest for several decades and am skilled at leading groups. As a journalist and writer, I can captivate my guests' interest with tons of history and stories. I love Northwest art, history, hiking, running, walking and skiing. 방문 장소

I'll pick you up at a central location on Mercer Island (easily accessible via public transportation) and we'll drive off the island to the Coal Creek and Red Town trails, former home of several now-hidden coal mines. If the weather cooperates, we'll stop at a secret view spot along the way. Because of COVID restrictions, all passengers are required to wear masks inside the car. If you would prefer, you can drive your car to the trail head.

Our group had a great experience with Cynthia! The weather was awesome and the location was great. The snacks tied in nicely - homemade dip, nuts, and maple syrup - all relating to aspects of the hike.

I greatly enjoyed the hike and learned a lot about the history of the area. Cynthia has great info to share and we had a wonderful time talking about life in general.

Cynthia was super friendly and accommodating! She provided snacks and made sure we had no allergies. She knew the information she was sharing with us and the experience was absolutely amazing and informative. We could’ve hiked by ourselves but Cynthia made it much more meaningful. And her dog Scooby is super cute and a great sport despite being 11 1/2.

Cynthia offers a unique experience hiking in what was a coal mining settlement now overgrown. She is well versed in the history of the area and also a knowledgeable nature interpreter, educating us on the flora and fauna of the forest. The hike was well-paced, interesting and fun. I highly recommend this Airbnb experience with Cynthia!

Don't miss this experience in Seattle! It's close enough to the city that you can easily make a half-day out of this, and still enjoy the rest of your day in the city. She will also pick you up at a park-and-ride for $20 per carload. She was super accomodating - when we got there early she told us to find a coffee shop and met up with her there. Cynthia has extensive knowledge of the area and a true passion for the subject. I highly recommend this - as my first Airbnb "experience" I will definitely look into more of these types of excursions. How wonderful!
