This small apartment has one bedroom with a queen bed, separate desk/work area, full kitchen, and full bath. We live on the first floor and rent three apartments upstairs. Two blocks from shops, restaurants, bakeries, art museum, and brewery. Dogs are allowed, but no cats. We love cats, but have had problems with spraying.
Soma (south Main) is a GREAT neighborhood close to everything! We're just 10 minutes from the airport, hospitals, the Rivermarket district, Verizon Arena, the river trails, great midtown neighborhoods, the convention center, the baseball park, and lots more.
Soma's offerings continue to grow. Rocktown Distillery, Core Brewing, Community Bakery, Raduno, South on Main, Root Cafe, Loblolly Creamery, Boulevard Bread, Bark Bar, Larry's Pizza (weekdays), Stone's Throw Brewery, and more are all within short walking distance (2-5 blocks). There's a Walgreens and Edwards Food Giant just three blocks away.
Other eats and drinks close by include Cathead's Diner, Rebel Kettle, Samantha's Tap Room, Bruno's Italian, Soul Fish Cafe, Sim's BBQ, Three Fold, Wasabi, 109 & Co., The Lobby Bar, Vino's, Ciao, Forty-Two (in the Clinton Library), Heifer Int'l Cafe (and check out their urban farm!), and more I'm forgetting. MacArthur Military Museum and Park and the Arkansas Arts Center are just a few blocks from the house, and the Arts Center is free. Also, don't forget the Central High School National Park and Museum. Drive straight west on Daisy Bates (14th St.) about a mile and you'll run right into it. Central is a beautiful school, and if you don't know its history and place in civil rights, you must visit and learn.
For outdoor fun, Pinnacle Mountain is west of town and provides great hikes. There's the "front side" and "back side" of Pinnacle. The back side is steeper and involves climbing up boulders. We think that side is more fun, but both are great, and a great workout. We ride our bikes frequently and use both the North Little Rock and Little Rock sides of the River Trail. It's so beautiful! You can do the whole loop, which is about 17 miles from our front door and back. Or you can drive to Murray Park or NLR Riverfront Park and ride from there. If you want to walk, head to Murray Park and the Big Dam Bridge, or a little farther west to Two Rivers Park, where we always see at least 40 deer along the trail. All trails are paved.
We have camp chairs, umbrellas, coolers, reusable shopping bags, etc. if you want to use any of them. Just let us know.
The Soma area is very safe, although if you leave something valuable in your car overnight, you may lose it overnight. Nights are also relatively safe. There is a homeless community downtown, but we haven't had any problems. Women should always be aware of their surroundings at night (this is true everywhere, unfortunately), but we certainly walk around the neighborhood at night to stroll, eat, drink, etc.
The "Designing Women" house is right around the corner at 1321 Scott (and it's for sale!). There is so much to do and see in Little Rock! Ask us if we haven't caught your interest in any of the above and we'll provide other suggestions.
SOMA (South Main) is a vibrant, historic, and arty neighborhood. Within two blocks are a one-of-a-kind purse museum and store (ESSE), organic restaurant (Root Cafe), Green Corner Store, Loblolly Ice Cream (local delicious), two bakeries/cafes (Community Bakery and Boulevard Bakery), antique stores, pizza joint (Raduno), late night bar (Midtown Billiards stays open until 5 a.m.), southern cuisine and music venue (South on Main), the Oxford American Magazine offices and art space, printing and jewelry space (Electric Ghost), an escape room (all the rage, apparently), farmer's market (in a sculpture garden--Bernice Garden), and less than one block from Villa Marre, which is "the Designing Women House." We're also walking distance to microbrewery Stone's Throw Brewing, the Arkansas Arts Center, dog park, MacArthur Park and Military Museum, Walgreen's, grocery store, and plenty of other stuff to keep you busy, stocked, and well-fed. The River Market district has a lot of restaurants, bars, public library, parks, the Clinton Library and School of Public Service (great speakers series and events). We are five minutes from Rocktown Distillery (fun tours and great bourbon!), Lost Forty Brewhouse, Rebel Kettle Brewing Co. The Arkansas Travelers are our AA baseball team (Anaheim). Dickey Stevens Park is just across the river in North Little Rock. NLR has a great neighborhood of bars, restaurants, and galleries called Argenta. That's also where you can find Verizon Arena.
