FULL MOON ROOM: Enjoy a comfy, full-sized bed and private (en-suite) bathroom in a central location! Space includes a desk and closet space. Your host is a PhD astronomer who loves conversation and sharing the sky! It's a 4-block stroll to groceries and cafes with views to the foothills; a scenic 15-min walk to the lively Pearl St cultural center of town; and only a mile to foothills hiking trails. It's 2 miles to CU. Easy access to parking & transportation (bus, B-bikes, car sharing, Lyft). EnergySmart home!
PLEASE NOTE: Cherilynn (primary host) currently plans to be away for some camping & backpacking days in June, July, and August, TBD. A co-host will attend to guest needs during these periods, and Cherilynn will be attentive as needed from afar.
My place is especially well equipped and located as a base for academic visitors, business travelers interested to explore a home-sharing experience, Integral Center visitors, parents with an adolescent or college-age child, and vacationing explorers (solo or coupled). Both short and longer term visitors are welcome (from 1 to 90 nights).
A supportive IKEA floor futon is available in addition to the comfy full-size bed for short-term guests (less than 7 nights) preferring to sleep separately or for an additional guest. There is an extra nightly fee for deploying the futon with complete bedding. Please let me know if this option is needed or desired at the time of booking.
Wifi works well in all rooms of the townhome and there are convenient places to plug in mobile phones and laptops.
I call my place the ASTRO AirBnB for three reasons:
1. A tasteful astronomical theme is reflected in the decor of the bedroom and common areas.
2. Astronomy-related art, books, puzzles, and toys (e.g. Chinese meditation balls, spectral glasses, wire sculptures), are available to all guests.
3. Weather permitting, your astronomer host is happy to offer a guided tour of the night sky (with binoculars, and/or a small telescope) or to provide a quick look at our daytime star (the Sun) through "Eclipse" glasses.
There are two upstairs bedrooms (each with a private, en-suite bathroom) available to AirBnB guests in this townhome. These rooms are rented via separate listings, but can be rented concurrently by a small group of people who want to stay in the same place (subject to concurrent availability and city occupancy limits):
1) The sunny, south-facing bedroom described in this listing is a dedicated guest space with a comfy, FULL-size bed, private 3/4 bath (shower, toilet, vanity, and medicine cabinet), laptop desk, and ample storage space in the closet and bedside tables. I call it the FULL MOON room.
2) The larger guest room (KING GALAXY room) has a cathedral ceiling, KING-size bed, en-suite private full bath (bathtub, shower, toilet, and two-sink vanity), laptop desk, a dedicated wardrobe cabinet, and closet space. This guest space is described more fully in a separate AirBnB listing. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/20191290
Both bedrooms are open, airy, and very private. They each have large windows that look out to the mature trees in the surrounding area.
PLEASE NOTE: There are no TV's on the premises. However, a recent guest successfully streamed an episode of Game of Thrones on his laptop using house WiFi and his personal Amazon account.
On colder mornings and evenings a gas fireplace is generally operating in the cozy living/dining room. On warmer mornings and evenings, the front patio/garden is a lovely, dappled-light setting for sipping a beverage. These common areas are always available to guests.
MORNING BEVERAGES with Cherilynn: High quality, French press coffee is available in the morning upon request when Cherilynn is home to host you. Organic teas and Trader Joe's 100% Columbian instant coffee is available self serve 24/7. Otherwise Vic's Coffee shop or Pekoe Sip House (tea) are just a pleasant, 4-block stroll toward the foothills.
EVENING BEVERAGES with Cherilynn: Upon request, a glass of wine, local beer, or sparkling water is available in the evenings to accompany interaction and/or sky watching with Cherilynn when she is home to host you.
Local Eldorado Springs water, a hot pot for heating water, a small microwave oven, and a toaster are available self-serve 24/7 on the counter in the living/dining room area. Cups, glasses, bowls, plates, and napkins with utensils are available at all times. Refrigerator space is available to all guests.
Independent stove-top cooking and laundry use are not available for short-term guests, but are negotiable for longer term guests (7 nights or more).
There is a well-behaved, pettable, green-eyed girl kitty (named Sukhino) on the premises. The bedrooms and common areas are kept very clean and clear of her fur and other emanations. She is not permitted in guest bedrooms, and guests should NOT let her go outdoors.
High-capacity Honeywell or Winix air purifiers (with well maintained filters) are operated in the bedroom and common areas prior to guest arrival. If desired, an air purifier may be used in the bedroom overnight.
The ASTRO AirBnB uses eco-friendly, hypo-allergenic products to clean the bathroom and launder the linens. A vacuum with a HEPA filter is used to clean the bedroom carpet between guests.
The neighborhood is very friendly and home to many trees, gardens, and small parks. Deer, squirrels, rabbits, and birds visit frequently; and the occasional fox, coyote, or racoon may show itself near dawn or dusk.
Our street is on the border between Central Boulder and Old North Boulder, and thus there are many wonderful amenities within walking distance.
Nearby shops (a 4-block stroll away) include a Whole Foods (Ideal Market), a pharmacy (with small post office), a laundromat & cleaners, plus specialty shops for pizza, ice cream, wine, coffee, tea, bread, bagels, and more. Many of the eateries have outdoor seating with views to the beautiful Flatirons - the signature rock formations in Boulder's foothills.
The famous Pearl Street walking mall with additional shops, restaurants, and live street performers (in warmer weather) is a scenic 15-minute walk (0.9 miles) on quiet, back streets. Ask your host for guidance about the route locals use!
It's about 1.2 miles on residential streets to access wonderful hiking trails in the foothills with dramatic views of the Flatirons and other amazing rock formations.
The University of Colorado campus is just 2 miles away.
